Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the ’70s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-’60s acid heroes and elevating funk music to complete recognition and acceptance as a true genre in and of itself. Clinton continues his mark on contemporary music today, most recently winning his first-ever Grammy Award in 2016 for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. His recent Funkadelic release, “Shake The Gate” - the first studio release under the Funkadelic brand in 30 years - was followed up with a star-studded collaboration with Kendrick Lamar & Ice Cube who joined him on a video and remix of his single “Ain’t That Funkin’ Hard on You?” That and his recent collaboration with Flying Lotus and Thundercat at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles continue to highlight the artist’s continuing place at the forefront of popular music.
